Rare metastases localization in medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)

Lecomte Pierre , Guyetant Serge , Pierre Peggy , Murat Arnaud , Sagan Christine , Dravet Francois , Benchellal Ziev , de Calan Loic

Usual metastatic localizations in MTC are liver, bone and lung. We report two cases with metastases in pancreas and breast. In a 51-year-old woman were discovered several nodules in the thyroid gland: 29×19 mm in the right lobe and 5 mm in the left. Calcitonine (CT) levels were 2300 and ECA 44 ng/ml. Fine-needle aspiration of the main nodule confirmed MTC. Total thyroidectomy and right jugulo carotidal lymph node dissection were performed in 1998 wit...

Gatta Blandine , Monsaingeon Maud , Goudet Pierre , Murat Arnaud , Niccoli-Sire Patricia , Calender Alain , Rohmer Vincent , Chabre Olivier , Tabarin Antoine

The characteristics of adrenal involvement in Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) have been defined from studies involving a limited number of patients. We have assessed retrospectively the prevalence, characteristics and evolution of adrenal involvement from the French group for the study of endocrine tumours (GTE) registry, involving 688 patients with MEN1. In our series, adrenal tumours identified at abdominal imaging occurred in 130 patients (18.9%). The mean age of...

Dagdeviren Murat , Beyan Esin , Dagdeviren Tanyel Sema , Copuroglu Esra , Cagir Yavuz , Dogan Ozlem , Ertugrul Derun Taner , Altay Mustafa

Aim: To determine how serum procalcitonin (PCT) levels are affected in diabetic and diabetic nephropathic patients, it is important to determine whether PCT is indicative of an inflammation in these patients.Materials and methods: The study included 175 patients (75 diabetic nephropathy (group 1), 75 diabetic (group 2) and 25 non-diabetic nephropathy (group 3)) and 75 healthy volunteers. Serum and urine creatinine, serum high sensitive C- reactive protei...

Characteristics of diabetic foot patients admitted to department of endocrinology and metabolic diseases at ankara university, faculty of medicine

Canlar Sule , Cinel Murat , Mutlu Adile Begum Bahcecioglu , Emral Rifat , Bayram Dilek , Metinarikan Nuran , Yurdakul Birgul , Demir Ozgur , Corapcioglu Demet

Introduction: Diabetic foot is one of the important and destructive complications of diabetes. During the life time of a diabetic patient, the risk of developing foot ulcers is around 5–15%, and about 20–25% of the causes of hospitalization in diabetic patients are due to foot ulcers. 40–80% of foot ulcers can be infected and resulted in osteomyelitis. Hospitalization due to osteomyelitis is 12 times more in diabetic patients than in non-diabetic population....

Dagdeviren Murat , Altay Mustafa , Yildiz Zennure , Simsek Gulcin , Citirik Mehmet , Ates Ihsan , Dagdeviren Tanyel S , Yildiz Canan , Sahin Tugba

Introduction: This study was designed to determine whether obesity causes inflammation on both conjunctival epithelium cells as well as on squamous metaplasia.Materials and methods: Around 61 volunteer participants who had no previous history of illness or drug use were involved in this study. Of them, nearly 20 were obese, and 41 were of normal weight. We measured the glucose and insulin values for all volunteers. We also measured the Body Mass Index (B...

Acoustic radiation force impulse elastography findings of achilles tendon in patients with hypothyroidism

Hale Turnaoğlu , Feride Pınar Altay , Feride Kural Rahatlı , Bozkus Yusuf , Iyidir Ozlem , Murat Haberal Kemal

IntroductionThere are very limited number of clinical studies and data on the effect of thyroid dysfunction in hypothyroidism on connective tissue. Tendinitis can be the first complaint in hypothyroidism and symptomatic relief can be provided with the appropriate treatment of primary thyroid deficiency. There are studies, showed softening in Achilles tendon with age, in patients with intermittent claudication, diabetes patients, and chronic kidney failur...

Whole blood transcriptomic profile of Cushing’s syndrome

Armignacco Roberta , Daniel De Murat , Jouinot Anne , Bouys Lucas , Perlemoine Karine , Letourneur Franck , Adoux Lucie , Zennaro Maria-Christina , Bertherat Jerome , Assie Guillaume

Background: Cushing’s syndrome, caused by an excess of circulating glucocorticoids, is associated with high morbidity and presents high inter-individual variability. The earlier the diagnosis, the better the treatment effectiveness and the prognosis. Hormone assays, routinely used, contribute to identify Cushing’s syndrome. However, no biomarker is currently available to directly quantify the biological action of glucocorticoids. Blood samples represent an easily obt...

Prevalence and related risk factors of simple renal cysts and nephrolithiasis in acromegaly

Bostan Hayri , Kizilgul Muhammed , Calapkulu Murat , Kozan Kalkisim Hatice , Betul Gulden Topcu Fatma , Gul Umran , Duger Hakan , Hepsen Sema , Ucan Bekir , Cakal Erman

Background: The growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) axis has effects on renal growth and electrolyte regulation. However, data on adverse renal comorbidities such as renal cysts and stones in acromegaly is scarce. The current study aimed to investigate the prevalence of radiologically detectable renal comorbidities and possible related factors in the acromegaly population. Methods: A total of 125 patients with acromegaly (46.4±11.6...

Evaluation of oxidative stress parameters in subacute thyroiditis patients

Dağdeviren Murat , Koca Arzu Or , Akkan Tolga , Ateş İhsan , Neşelioğlu Salim , Erel Ozcan , Altay Mustafa

Objective: The aim of our study was to determine whether there is a relationship between oxidative stress parameters and subacute thyroiditis.Material and methods: The study included 55 subacute thyroiditis patients and 30 healthy volunteers. Total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), paraoxonase (PON) and thiol/disulfide homeostasis parameters were measured by a novel and automated assay in the patient and control groups.<p class="a...

Dağdeviren Murat , Ateş İhsan , Demir Burak Furkan , Ergun Emine , Yıldız Canan , Altay Mustafa

Background: İt is known that there is a relationship between some diseases and blood groups. Objective: The objective of our study is to investigate how often ABO and Rh blood groups are seen in benign thyroid diseases, especially in autoimmune-mediated thyroid diseases, and hence whether there is an association between blood groups and thyroid diseases.Method: A total of 958 patients who were followed due to any benign thyroi...
